Couponing Newbie Guide

For Newbies (Low Cost)

Prepare:
  1. Sunday Paper
  2. Scissors
  3. Computer/Laptop
  4. Printer
  5. Reusable bags
  6. Club Cards (CVS, Walgreen, Albertson's, Kroger, Safeway...)
  7. Install Cell Phone Store Apps (Target CartWheel, Safeway Just4U...)
  8. Browse e-coupons and print what you need:

www.RedPlum.com
Keep the coupons organized, wait for a sale and score big!

For Intermediates (Small Investment)

  1. Get a Coupon Binder (3-Ring Binder of your choice + Baseball Cards Holder in Walmart)
  2. Paper Cutter (You will be glad you have it)
  3. Laser Printer (Better Quality Prints so less frowns on blurry coupons)
  4. Store Coupon Policy
  5. Use Coupon Clipping Services (Just buy the coupons you need in bulk!)
  6. Know the Jargons!

These jargons may be quite intimidating to couponing noobs, at least for me when I started out a couple months ago. These are the abbreviations that you will come across throughout this blog and other sites:

MQ / MC = Manufacturer Coupons that you get from the Sunday Paper
PQ / PC = Printable coupons that you print from couponing sites
MM = Money Maker - You will actually get money back or get a credit towards other purchases
OOP = Out of Pocket amount
Double/Triple = Some stores may double or triple the value of your coupons!
Just4U = Safeway Just4U e-coupons
CartWheel = Target's Own Couponing App, can be stacked with MQ & Store coupon

Few Tips before your first trip:

  1. Make Sure you got all the coupons in hand
  2. Use Self-Checkout if possible so you can scan an item then the coupon immediately to see if it applies. If it doesn't work, find out why, maybe your store has a different coupon policy.
  3. Know your stores, check out different locations and find one that you like the most, with friendly staff and items in stock. A friendly cashier that knows what they are talking about does make a difference!
  4. If you have a lot of coupons, kindly tell the person behind you so they may go to another lane.
  5. Be polite, if the coupon doesn't apply, try to find out why, cancel transaction or request refunds.
